I’m over in England for a year or so. I’m mostly doing family stuff, but now and again I get a chance for some wandering and some painting.
I’m living in Bury St Edmunds, a pretty market town in Suffolk which is only a hop and a skip from where Gainsborough and Constable lived and painted. It’s been interesting to visit so-called Constable Country and to paint there.

I’ve always been interested in how my own art fits into the centuries of art that precede it, and in the tension between new and traditional. So it has been an odd experience having the landscapes of Constable impose themselves on my ego, as it were. I’m pretty happy to let that happen and see where it leads.
