Flanagan Art Prize 2025: Celebrating Finalists in Ballarat

Very happy to be a finalist in this year’s Flanagan Art Prize in Ballarat. It’s nice to see the return of this Australia-wide art competition. COVID suspended some of these prizes and the Art Gallery of Ballarat no longer hosts national events as the Rick Amor Drawing Prize or the Guirguis New Art Prize, leaving Ballarat feeling a bit hungry for some contemporary art shenanigans and maybe just a tiny bit backwatery. But no more!

There’s a great selection of artists in the final and I’m looking forward to the opening night. I have two paintings in the final selection: Gariwerd Dawn II (above) and Colorbond Fantasia (Below). The gala opening and presentation of prizes is on Friday 21st March at 7pm if you want to come along. Tickets can be had from Trybooking, or you can visit for free on 22nd and 23rd March between 10am and 4pm in the Old Collegians Pavilion at St Patrick’s College, entry via Wanliss St, Ballarat.

  1. It’s always great seeing the talent that comes through the Flanagan. Ballarat’s art scene has such a strong pulse — love seeing it recognised and celebrated like this. Congrats to all the finalists!
