Just finished another six days up in Halls Gap/Budja Budja, in the Grampians Gariwerd region. It’s a fantastic way to spend a week, surrounded by artists, and talking about nothing but art. Coming back to life on social media really points up the thinness of the online experience. It’s no substitute for yarning in the same room, or under the same tree. Not even close.
We started outside, sketching with our iPads. Back in the studio we developed colour schemes from our sketches and photos, made colour studies, and finally worked up some big canvases. Pretty much what I do in the studio. It’s a process I’m familiar with after 40 years of doing it, so it’s testament to the enthusiasm of everyone that they ran with it in six days.
Fantastic work by everyone. Chapeau!
