Bush Sketch I, 2019, oil paint on gessoed cotton on wood panel. Height 15cm x Width 15cm x Depth 1.7cm (6in x 6in x 0.75in) sizes approximate.
One of a series of oil paint sketches I made en plein air in the bush near Ballarat. Winter darkens the dusty colours, making them richer. Rains fill the dams and the ruts of four wheel drive tracks.
When I painted this I had intended to use it as a basis for a larger painting, but I just love the textures of the oils at this scale and I think it stands up as a work in its own right. Hope you agree!
Signed and titled verso.
