From Orton to Shap

A walk across the North of England – Day 10

Another short day today to Shap village. At the top of the moor we catch our first sight of the Lake District and can make out the cone of Kidsty Pike a long way in the distance. Something for tomorrow. We cross the M6 by a footbridge and, after days of living at walking pace with little but the sounds of weather and birds, we wonder at the speed and noise of the traffic. Did we used to live like that?

We stroll across paddocks to Shap and are welcomed by donkeys in search of an ear scratch.
